The early history regarding the time of his birth and place were never ever confirmed and there are different information about this matter. The most general date of birth of Jim Thorpe is considered to be that of 28 May, 1988 and the place for the birth was at Prague, Oklahoma. The real and actual name of Jim Thorpe is Jacobus Franciscus Thorpe. Jim Thorpe had a twin brother named Charlie who helped in many times during school life but at the age of nine, Charlie died due to pneumonia.
 
It was the year of 1904, that Jim Thorpe attended the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania. There the young Jim Thorpe about his great talent in sports. In actual Jim Thorpe first entered into the world of athletics when he beat the high school high jumpers record while still in street clothes. In regards to American Football, coach Pop Warner was reluctant to let Thorpe play, but after seeing that Jim was a natural in the field and untouchable, Jim was allowed to play. Jim Thorpe took part in the 1912 Olympics and placed first in multiple numbers of events. Initially, Jim entered the Olympics to take part in the pentathlon and a decathlon. Jim also took part in the long and the high jump. Jim Thorpe won a total of a record number of 8,413 points. It was here in these Olympics during the prize giving ceremony done by King Gustav V of Sweden told Jim Thorpe that he was the greatest athlete of all time.
 
Death
 
After the career of Jim Thorpe finally came to an end, he was forced to work odd jobs as there was no other thing for him to do. In the years before his death, Jim worked jobs like that of a security guard, a bouncer in a club and even as a ditch digger. The situation was so bleak for Jim at that time that when he was admitted in hospital in 1950 due to lip cancer he was broke. Jim Thorpe died at the age of 64 on 28 March due to a heart failure.
